For Adoptive Parents - Traveling To Pick Up Your Child
You want to be at the hospital for the birth of your child. Planning for this can be tricky if you are traveling across country. We always encourage clients to err on the side of caution and arrive in the area on or before the birthmother's due date, if possible, even if this means waiting around for a few days. We will try to work with the birthmother and her doctor in an effort to pinpoint the due date as it draws closer.
It is usually equally difficult to estimate a certain return date in that you must obtain both states ICPC clearances if traveling with the baby across state lines.
You are better off purchasing airline tickets to allow you modify your dates of travel on both ends, even if it requires that you have to pay a small fee.
FEDERAL TRAVEL is a travel agency which offers significantly reduced "adoption fares" and, importantly, allows you to modify your dates of travel without any additional cost or penalty.
Note: When choosing a hotel to stay in, we recommend a suite arrangement such as Extended Stay or Amerisuites. These hotels are usually slightly larger than a regular hotel room and offer a kitchenette which will allow you to eat some of your meals in and will make it easier to prepare bottles, boil water, etc.
